From the official NASA web site we find this stunning picture of the Space Shuttle Endeavor docked with the International Space Station. I already posted a science Tuesday blurb this morning but I think this photo deserves to make it a double shot Tuesday here at RD. You may now gasp at the splendor.

The International Space Station and the Docked Space Shuttle Endeavour This image of the International Space Station and the docked space shuttle Endeavour, flying at an altitude of approximately 220 miles, was taken by Expedition 27 crew member Paolo Nespoli from the Soyuz TMA-20 following its undocking on May 23, 2011 (USA time). It is the first-ever image of a space shuttle docked to the International Space Station. Onboard the Soyuz were Russian cosmonaut and Expedition 27 commander Dmitry Kondratyev; Nespoli, a European Space Agency astronaut; and NASA astronaut Cady Coleman. Coleman and Nespoli were both flight engineers. The three landed in Kazakhstan later that day, completing 159 days in space.

  1. Beautiful!! I may just turn that into my wallpaper for a while. I also ran across this link, images taken by a French guy’s with his backyard telescope:

  2. I can’t tell where the shuttle is at in the picture. Is it that thing near the top?

  3. Ah, I see it now. It’s on the very top and the picture is showing it from the rear so you can see the engines. Nice picture.
