Coming This Fall – Star Wars Muppet Figures
June 3, 2011 at 7:52 am | Posted in Disney, Star Wars News | 1 CommentTags: Disney Parks, muppet star wars, Muppets, star wars figuress
Found on the Star Wars Official Site this morning is a link directly to the Disney Parks Blog about a new collectible due out this fall. We’re talking Star Wars Muppets!
Star Wars and the Muppets have had a long and fruitful relationship over the decades. The late Jim Henson, Frank Oz and their crew of voice talent and master puppeteers have brought us some of our favorite characters, from the bad guys like Jabba The Hutt to one of the most powerful and long lived Jedi ever in the form of Master Yoda. Given the relationship between the two franchises it almost seems natural and inevitable that this collection would evolve into the merchandising efforts of both productions.
Steven Miller, Merchandising Communications Manager for Disney Parks, posted the blog entry and quoted Associate Product Developer for Toys and Games Cody Hampton as saying, “These new Muppets figures are articulated unlike the figures we released a few years ago. The new figures will be sold as two-figure sets and will feature classic characters like Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy.”
Miller went on to say:
Cody shared with me an early mock-up of the packaging featuring Beaker as C-3PO and Dr. Bunsen Honeydew as R2-D2. The other sets will include Link Hogthrob as Han Solo with Fozzy the Bear as Chewbacca, and (my favorite) Sam the Eagle as Obi-Wan Kenobi with Gonzo as Darth Vader complete with his chicken Camilla as a Stormtrooper.
These figures won’t arrive until Fall at Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort. If you are visiting Star Wars Weekends at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, you can see them on display in Jabba’s Hut, the specially-designed merchandise location near Disney’s Rock ‘N’ Roller Coaster.
So if you find yourself at a Disney Theme Park facility this fall, be sure to look for this mash up of these two highly entertaining franchises. I know they would look great in my collection.
